Holden Outerwear is a manufacturer of jackets and pants for use in snowboarding. Based in Portland, OR, Holden is owned by professional snowboarder Mikey LeBlanc and designer Scott Zergebel.

History

Holden was launched in 2002 by LeBlanc and Zergebel under the wings of Earth Products, a subsidiary of K2 Sports and the larger Jarden Corporation. In 2007, Holden severed ties with Earth Products and became an independent company[1]. Holden acquired its name from the protagonist of JD Salinger's novel Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield. Holden's character represented a youthful revolt to the ordinary which LeBlanc felt portrayed an aesthetic for the collection[2]. In order to keep the youthful revolt going, Party Time Nate[3] was hired as the brand's official mascot.

Collection

Holden is known for its use of eco-friendly fabrics in technical jackets. In 2006, Holden won an award from the Worth Global Style Network for its development of a fabric made of hemp and recycled plastic bottles that is both waterproof and breathable.[4] Holden also partners with Schoeller Technologies to use their patented eco-friendly C change fabrics. The fabric won the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation of the Year.[5] Fall of 2010 will be the launch of Holden's streetwear collection which includes wool and leather jackets for men and women.

Video

In 2009, LeBlanc and Holden team rider Darrell Mathes along with others, founded the video production company Videograss[6]. The debut film, also titled Videograss, features the riding of the Holden team. The second video is scheduled to premiere in fall of 2010. Prior to Videograss, LeBlanc owned the now defunct Kidsknow productions[7]. The two films released under Kidsknow, Burning Bridges and Love/Hate were inherently tied to the Holden team.
