The 1936–37 New York Rangers season was the 11th season for the team in the National Hockey League. During the regular season, the Rangers posted a third-place finish in the American Division, with a 19–20–9 record. New York qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs, where the team defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Maroons to reach the Stanley Cup Finals. In the Cup Finals, the Rangers lost to the Detroit Red Wings, three games to two.[1]

Regular season

On November 16, 1936, Hal Winkler made his NHL debut for the New York Rangers and gained a 1–0 shutout over the Montreal Maroons. He was the first goaltender to have a shutout in his NHL debut.[2]
