ANTARA is the official news agency of the government of Indonesia. It was founded on December 13, 1937 by Adam Malik, Soemanang, AM Sipahoetar and Pandoe Kartawagoena. It became the country's news agency in 1962.

The agency is based in Jakarta with bureaus in all provinces of Indonesia. The Sumatra branch was established by Djamaluddin Adinegoro.

It also has overseas bureaus in Cairo, Canberra, Kuala Lumpur, New York, Sanaá, Tokyo and Beijing.
