An ambassadorial residence is where an ambassador lives, often an official residence. In many cases it is in the same building as the chancery, which houses the embassy (diplomatic mission). Like embassies, such residences are considered inviolable and, in most cases, extraterritorial.
The residences of high commissioner, who are similar to ambassadors, have the same rights. Ambassadorial residences play an important role in diplomacy, as they are the site of a variety of social events.
