The 573 area code covers a large area of the state of Missouri. While excluding the St. Louis area, it covers most of eastern Missouri, with the northeast corner of Missouri as the northeastern tip, the Lake of the Ozarks at the western tip, Doniphan, Missouri as the southwestern tip, and all of southeastern Missouri (including the Missouri Bootheel area) and areas adjacent to the Mississippi River. Prior to January 7, 1996, the area now served by the 573 area code was part of area code 314.
