Senate constituency in Spain
Asturias —Oviedo until 1986—is one of the 59 constituencies (Template:Lang-es ) represented in the Senate , the upper chamber of the Spanish parliament, the Cortes Generales . The constituency elects four senators . Its boundaries correspond to those of the Spanish province of Asturias . The electoral system uses an open list partial block voting , with electors voting for individual candidates instead of parties. Electors can vote for up to three candidates.

1978 by-election
After the resignation of Wenceslao Roces due to disagreement with the direction of the Communist Party of Spain , a by-election was called to elect a new senator in Asturias.[ 5] This election was held concurrently with a by-election in Alicante .
