History of Khorasan — a geographic and historical region of southern Central Asia and the northeastern Iranian Plateau of Western Asia.

Greater Khorasan historically & traditionally comprised the cities of Balkh, Herat, and Taloqan (Afghanistan); Mashhad, Nishapur, and Sabzevar (Iran); Merv and Nisa (Turkmenistan); and Samarqand and Bukhara (Uzbekistan).
