Opposed speedy move request[edit]

  • Category:Counties of Scotland to Category:Shires of Scotland – C2D: Rename to match the name of main article: Shires of Scotland Zotur (talk) 13:41, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose - these comparatively recently defunct entities would overwhelmingly be referred to as counties these days and shires, in their various forms throughout history, is a wider topic, including units which are much smaller units than the counties (e.g. Lochoreshire). The Shires of Scotland article is largely in regard to the counties but covers the wider topic too, so the scope of the article and the category are not identical. A case could be made that it is the article title which is anomalous or gives the lesser-used term, rather than the category title. The category has been in stable existence for over 14 years so at least warrants consideration rather than hasty action. Mutt Lunker (talk) 14:07, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose - per Mutt Lunker. These subdivisons may well have been normally referred to as 'shires' prior to the mid-19th century (the article is not explict about a transition) but common usage throughout the lifetime of anyone alive today would not use this nomenclature - as Mr Google seems to agree. See for example the articles in the sub-cat Category:Lists of counties of Scotland. Ben MacDui 16:03, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for clarification, Mutt Lunker and User:Ben MacDui. After your comments I withdraw my proposal. How technically should I do this? --Zotur (talk) 12:01, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for being receptive. Mutt Lunker (talk) 13:29, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
