Inclusion criterion[edit]

This category is intended for impact craters, not volcanic craters. Please make sure that volcanic craters are listed in the appropriate subcategories of Category:Volcanoes.

Confirmed impact craters should not be listed here. For craters listed on the Earth Impact Database (which is Wikipedia's consensus definition of a confirmed impact site), {{Cite Earth Impact DB}} as a reference in the page in order to include them in Category:Earth Impact Database.

This category is for notable craters listed as "possible", "probable" or "most probable" on comprehensive impact lists, including the IFSG Impact Database (USA) or SCGC Catalogue of the Earth's Impact structures (Russia). Even "confirmed" sites on the comprehensive lists remain in this category until they are listed on the Earth Impact Database. Entries listed as "improbable", "rejected" or "discredited" are not eligible to be on this category or any impact crater category. Just being on one of the secondary lists is not sufficient to establish notability for the article - so they should not be used in an effort to simply populate this category.
