The European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (ESMC) is a planned joint venture. In August 2023, TSMC announced the construction of a semiconductor factory in Dresden as part of a joint venture. Bosch, Infineon and NXP Semiconductors are said to each have a 10% stake. The investment amount is around 10 billion euros. The project is to be funded with around 5 billion euros from the federal government's climate and transformation fund. The plan is to produce chips with structure widths of 22-28 and 12-16 nm on 40,000 wafers with a diameter of 300 mm per month from the end of 2027 with 2,000 employees. Similar to the parent company, the joint venture will be called ESMC – European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. The ESMC factory will be built west of Dresden Airport in the Airport Park. Due to the Federal Constitutional Court's ruling of November 15, 2023 on the Climate and Transformation Fund Act, the size of the Climate and Transformation Fund was reduced by 60 billion euros. It is assumed that ESMC funding will also be affected.
