Wenlin Wang

Wenlin Wang (Chinese: 王文林, September 6, 1967-）is the Director of the Institute of Chest Wall Surgery at the Civil Aviation Campus of the Second People's Hospital of Guangdong Province.. He is also the Chairman of the Professional Committee on Chest Wall Surgery at the Guangdong Association of Thoracic Diseases, a member of the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, and the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Third Military Medical University, obtained his doctoral degree from Southern Medical University (the First Military Medical University), and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.

As a pioneer in chest wall surgery in China, he established China's first chest wall surgery on May 9, 2018, and founded the Chinese Chest Wall Surgery Alliance in 2019 and serves as its chairman. On February 9, 2023, he established the world's first specialized hospital for chest wall surgery.

Wenlin Wang has completed over 8,000 chest wall surgeries, including some highly complex surgeries, such as the world's first simultaneous surgery of double lung transplantation combined with complex chest wall deformity, and the world's first simultaneous surgery of asphyxiating thoracic dystrophy combined with congenital heart disease. Additionally, he has also completed 34 surgeries for asphyxiating thoracic dystrophy, thereby establishing a global record in terms of surgical volume for this condition.

The main operating steps of Wang procedure

In terms of thoracic deformity, the oldest patients with Pectus Excavatum he treated were 59 years old, and the oldest patient with Pectus Carinatum was 56 years old. The ages of these patients also broke the world records.

During his more than ten years of research on chest wall diseases, he invented Wang procedure for the surgical treatment of Pectus Excavatum, and Wenlin procedure for the surgical treatment of Pectus Carinatum and various complex thoracic deformities

Among them, Wang procedure “is a surgical treatment used for young children with Pectus Excavatum, breaking the taboo that children under 5 years old cannot undergo Pectus Excavatum correction surgery."（这是一款用于低龄漏斗胸患儿的术式，打破了5岁以下儿童不能进行漏斗胸矫形术的禁忌） And unlike Nuss procedure, the younger the patient, the better the effect of Wang procedure. Wenlin Wang once performed the procedure on a critical 9-month-old child with Pectus Excavatum, which not only saved the patient's life, but also well corrected the patient's deformity.

Wang procedure has been officially recognized by China's National Health Commission and has been included in the "Surgical Operation Classification Code National Clinical Version 3.0".
