Floral Park is a Long Island Rail Road train station in Floral Park, New York at Tulip and Atlantic Avenues. It is primarily a Hempstead Branch station, but there is limited service to the Port Jefferson Branch service (the Main Line) on weekday mornings.

[edit] Platform and track configuration

This station has three high-level platforms. The northern one (Platform A), is an eight-car-long side platform adjacent to Track 1 of the Main Line that is generally used by westbound or New York City-bound trains. The central one (Platform B), is a 10-car-long island platform adjacent to Track 2 of the Main Line and Track 1 of the Hempstead Branch. This platform is generally used by eastbound Main Line trains or westbound or New York City-bound Hempstead Branch trains. The southern one (Platform C), is a 10-car-long side platform adjacent to Track 2 of the Hempstead Branch and generally used by eastbound or Hempstead-bound trains. There are four tracks at this location, and each is adjacent to one of the platforms.

On weekday mornings, as of September 2006, only three eastbound trains stop at Platform B and one westbound train stops at Platform A. These services are intended to supplement service to and from the west and are not necessarily intended for Port Jefferson Branch customers. The station is not wheelchair accessible.

According to the Wed. June 3rd edition of the local paper "The Gateway", the station office, currently open from 6:30am - 1:30pm M-F will close on August 18th, 2009 as part of another round of MTA cutbacks.

Three people have been hit by trains here, with all dying. Tragically, one of the dead was a 12-year old boy named Paul Lynch.
