Glenn H. Gruenhagen (born February 1, 1952) is a Minnesota politician and member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota, he represents District 18B, which includes parts of McLeod and Sibley counties in the south central Minnesota. He is an insurance agent, owning Gruenhagen Insurance and Financial Services in Glencoe.[1][2]
Early life, education, and career
Gruenhagen was raised on a dairy farm near Glencoe. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He earned his Chartered Financial Consultant (Ch.F.C.) designation and his Charted Life Underwriter (C.L.U.) designation from The American College, a training institution for financial planners and insurance agents. Before running for the House, he served on the Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board for 16 years.[1][2]
Minnesota House of Representatives
Gruenhagen was first elected to the House in 2010, opting to run after incumbent Representative Laura Brod decided not to seek reelection. He was reelected in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020.
Political beliefs
Gruenhagen has expressed climate change denialist views.[3] In 2021 he tried to amend a large climate and energy bill, proposed by the Democrats in the Minnesota House of Representatives, to redefine wind power and solar power as "dirty, inefficient and expensive".[4]
Personal life
Gruenhagen and his wife live in rural Glencoe. They have three daughters.[1] He is a member of the American Legion and the Rotary Club.[2]
