Jacyn Heavens is the owner, founder and CEO of Epos Now, a global electronic point of sale company with offices in both the UK and United States,[1] and a media commentator for retail, hospitality and tech industry trends.

Early life and education

Heavens was born to Karen and Barry Heavens in James Paget Hospital in Gorleston, Norfolk, England on 7 June 1983. He attended Thorpe St Andrew School, and he continued his studies at Cawston College in Cawston, Norfolk, England.[2]

Career

Heavens worked in sales including insurance, advertising and technology. He later specialised in the telecommunications industry before moving into the hospitality industry to launch his own bar and restaurant.[3] Heavens searched for an POS system that would suit his business and identified a gap in the market and began to develop his own software.[4]

Heavens started Epos Now with £85,000 of his own money,[5] over 5 years he has been able to grow the business to a valuation of over $90 million in 2016.[6] Epos Now has over 200 employees throughout the UK and the US,[1] with over 20,000 businesses using the software.[7] In 2016, Epos Now was ranked by Tech Track as the UK's fastest-growing POS company, and 13th fastest growing private tech firm in the UK, with average annual growth of 156%.[7] In April 2016 Epos Now was award a Queen's Award for Enterprise Innovation.[8]

Heavens is the founder and CEO of Sentinel Asset Finance, Sentinel Property Management and Blue House Investments.[9]

Press

Heavens has been featured in local and national press discussing his business ventures.[5][7][10][11][12] He has also featured on television discussing the "importance of a positive corporate culture".[13] Heavens acts as an industry commentator across trade publications and national media.[14][15]

Coverage of sales spikes in the UK publican trade featured in the press during the Euro 2016 tournament. Heavens was invited to commentate in The Spectator,[16] City AM,[17] the Daily Star,[18] and Big Hospitality.[19]

Research conducted by Heavens has been reported on by BBC,[20] the Mail Online,[21] The Sun,[22] and The Telegraph.[23]

Heavens has provided commentary related to the UK EU Referendum Result in June 2016, including an interview with the Mail on Sunday[24] and technology news website ZD Net[25] and on BBC News.[26]

Heavens commented on increases in revenue experienced by British retail and hospitality businesses during summer 2016, following the referendum. This "staycationing" trend was commented in The Times,[27] Mail Online[28] and City AM.[29]
