Joyous Encounter is the continuation of the group put together for the 2004 record I'm All For You (also by Joe Lovano). Featuring George Mraz, Paul Motian, and Hank Jones, the album expands upon the concept of the last album, exploring the warmth and harmony of several ballads from original songs by Lovano to songs written by Thelonious Monk, Thad Jones, and John Coltrane.
