Sri Karanpur is a city and a municipality in Ganganagar district in the Indian state of Rajasthan

Geography

Sri Karanpur is located at 29°50′29″N 73°27′17″E / 29.8414°N 73.4547°E / 29.8414; 73.4547.[1] It has an average elevation of 185 metres (606 feet).postel code - 335073

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Sri Karanpur had a population of 20,694. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Karanpur has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 56%. In Karanpur, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age. Major languages spoken here are Punjabi and Bagri.

Economy

Sri Karanpur once produced the best quality cotton in India and even attracted Birlas to set up a mill which still exists today in the town, but after 1995 the produce took a deep dip and people shifted to other cash crops. Today it is known in the area to have most fertile land supporting thousands of acre under horticulture especially the kinnow which is exported to west Asia.

Transport.

By Train - there is direct train from Delhi Sarai Rohilla railway station [DEE] to Sri Karanpur. Train no 12455/56 Delhi Sarai rohila [DEE] to bikaner [BKN] superfast express and from Sri Ganganagar few passenger trains to Suratgarh goes via Sri Karanpur.

By Bus - There is single direct bus to Hisar from Karanpur at morning 6. and a kind of frequent buses throughout the day for Sri Ganganagar.

Places to be seen:

Naggi village which is border of India and Pak which has war memorial,not aware by tourists. But a place to be visited in honor of Martyrs. And you can get a small desert environment in the border.
