The Kininvie distillery is a distillery in Dufftown, Moray which produces single malt Scotch whisky. The distillery is owned by William Grant & Sons and the product from the distillery is used in their vatted malt and blended whisky brands.[1]

The Kininvie Distillery, one of the youngest distilleries in Scotland, began production on the 4th July 1990.[1][2] The distillery, whilst featuring computer controlled distillation, lacks its own mash house. Mash houses are responsible for producing the liquid needed for fermentation in the washbacks, so the liquid used by the Kininvie Distillery in their washbacks is piped from the Balvenie Distillery some 200 metres away.[1] The distillery presently operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to meet demand.[1]
The distillery has, to date, released only two single malt whiskies, the first a limited edition bottling called Hazelwood 105, which was bottled aged 15 years.,[3] the second being the Hazelwood Reserve released for the 107th birthday of Janet Sheed Roberts as a 17-year-old. The output from the Kininvie Distillery is normally used in William Grant & Sons blended whiskies, primarily the Clan Macgregor blended whisky, a typical blended whisky featuring a high percentage of grain whisky mixed with the single malt from the Kininvie Distillery.[4]
William Grant & Sons, in 2005, introduced a premium triple vatted malt called 'Monkey Shoulder', which is created from a mixture of single malt from Kininvie, together with single malts from the Balvenie and Glenfiddich distilleries, both of which are owned by William Grant & Sons.[5] The Monkey Shoulder is designed to appeal to customers who would not typically drink whisky. The brand has announced sponsorship deals with the UK-based music magazine NME in an effort to target the magazine's youth demographic.[6]
There is no indication as to whether a more accessible single malt bottling will be offered in the future, either through William Grant & Sons or any of the numerous independent bottlers.[3]
