Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is the latest game in the Monster Hunter franchise for PlayStation Portable. It is an expansion to the original Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (Monster Hunter Portable 2nd in Japan) and was released on March 27, 2008 in Japan. As of now, there is no official word on neither a US nor European release date - though an English version is expected to come out in both of these regions, seeing as how popular the franchise is on the console.

As for the release in Japan - a special edition PSP Slim & Lite bundle was announced for 25.000 Yen (roughly 230 USD), which includes the game, two pouches of different sizes, a strap, and a nicely decorated bronze/brown PSP Slim & Lite. Apart from this bundle, people who pre-ordered the game in Japan received a hairy, black strap whereas the hair is meant to be that of one of the game's new and exclusive monsters - the Narugakuruga.

News for this expansion (other than the usual "more of everything" such as items and weapons) is a whole new area called Rain Forest, a couple of new monsters (two of which made their first appearances in the MMORPG Monster Hunter Frontier and one being exclusive for this game - the Narugakaruga), G-Rank missions, and the option of hiring a Felyne Warrior to help you on your missions. The maximum HR that can be achieved is 9, and some of the weapons get new upgrades.

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G also allows for players to install all media files to the memory stick - further improving loading times.

On March 27th, there were 670,000 copies sold, being 1,7000 for the limited edition, being one of the best sells of videogames in the history of Japan.
