From 18 July 2015 until 28 August 2015 he was the Deputy Minister for Labour and Social Solidarity in the coalition government of Alexis Tsipras.[2] From May 2012 until August 2015 Haikalis was a member of the Hellenic Parliament for the Independent Greeks representing the Attica constituency. Before joining the cabinet he was spokesman of his party for social security.[3]

His acting career includes many films and TV series.[4] One of his recent films is The Limousine (2013).[5]
