"Rock 'n' Roll High School" is a song by American punk rock group the Ramones, from the soundtrack album Rock 'n' Roll High School. The single did not chart in the U.S. but peaked at number 67 on the UK Singles Chart.
The Ramones re-recorded the song in 1979 for the album End of the Century, produced by Phil Spector.
There are two versions of the song. The first is one where the beginning features the opening chord accompanied by the drum beat to the song. This is also the version featured in the music video and on the End of The Century album. It also has a slightly different tune. The one recorded for the "Rock 'n' Roll High School" soundtrack, which is the original, features the drum beat first with Joey saying the eventual line "Rock, Rock, Rock, Rock, Rock 'n' Roll High School" and the original lyrics. This is also the version they usually performed live. The only time the Spector produced version was played was on The Sha Na Na Show where they mimed the song.
Alvin and the Chipmunks covered the song as a bonus track for their 2007 video game of the same name.
