Stretford Metrolink station is a tram stop on the Altrincham Line of Greater Manchester's light-rail Metrolink system. It is located in Stretford, on the corner of Chester Road and Edge Lane. It opened on 15 June 1992 as part of Phase 1 of Metrolink's expansion.
The station sits on the site of Stretford railway station, a regional rail station which was opened by the Manchester South Junction and Altrincham Railway as Edge Lane railway station on 20 July 1849, was renamed to Stretford in September 1849, and closed on 24 December 1991 for conversion from heavy rail to light rail.
A shuttle service to the Trafford Centre runs from the Manchester-bound platform of Stretford Metrolink station every twenty minutes; other bus routes also serve the station on Edge Lane, the main road above. The station is in Ticketing Zone E.
The station originally opened as Edge Lane on 20 July 1849 by the Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway (MSJAR). Renamed Stretford in September 1849. Operated as a four-platform station from circa 1900 until 1963. Closed as a British Rail station on 24 December 1991. Reopened as a Metrolink station on 15 June 1992.
Stretford is located on the Altrincham Line with trams towards Altrincham stopping every 6 minutes during the day, Mondays to Saturdays, every 12 minutes Monday to Saturday evenings and Sunday daytime and every 15 minutes Sunday evenings. Trams also head towards Manchester and Bury, with the Monday to Saturday daytime service running every 12 minutes each to Manchester Piccadilly or Bury, while evening and Sundays journeys run to Piccadilly only with journeys to Bury requiring a change of trams at Piccadilly Gardens.

Connecting bus routes
Stretford station is served by Arriva North West's ML1 service, which provides a direct link to the Trafford Centre. Passengers can buy tickets at tram stops for the Trafford Centre and board the ML1 service for no extra cost. Normal Arriva and System One tickets are also valid on this service.
The station is also served by Stagecoach Manchester service 15, which runs to Flixton via Urmston and Davyhulme and to Manchester via Hulme, Arriva/Finglands service 16, which runs to Altrincham via Sale and to Manchester via Chorlton, First Greater Manchester/Stagecoach/Arriva service 22, which runs to Bolton via Trafford Centre and to Stockport via Chorlton, Stagecoach services 23/23A to Trafford Centre and to Stockport via Chorlton and by JPT service 276, which runs to Trafford General Hospital via Urmston and to West Didsbury via Chorlton. There are also several services which stop at nearby Stretford Mall, which can connect onto the Metrolink at Stretford.
