In a very minor speech that Ann Winblad made to a small company that Hummer-Winblad was investing in, she said three things that I still remember, 15 years later:

When asked how she got where she was, she said it was because she was an eagle. What? "Eagles...Don't...Flock." she said with pauses and emphasis on each word.

She told us (company employees) that it was true, not rumour that she was an ex-girlfriend from long, long ago of (either Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, I always get those two confused.)

She also talked about what it was like during the early days of being the founder of one of the big-name internet companies, but I forget which one--Novell? Oracle?

The catchphrase, "Eagles don't flock" was not coined by Ann Winblad. My ex took a business class at Los Angeles Pierce College in the early '80s, and in her textbook for that class that phrase was attributed to a particular businessman who was already well-established -- it might have been Ross Perot. The catchphrase was prominently displayed somewhere in his office. // Internet Esquire (talk)
