[edit]

I have read several Spy Vs. Spy comics where the Morse Code on top didn't seem to read "By Prohias", and the comic clearly was drawn in a different style, yet still was claimed as being drawn "by Prohias" in regular text. I wonder whether the Morse Code here was a sort of "secret message" for revealing the Real artist of these comics?

Actually, it was Peter Kuper who first wrote "By Prohias". In Prohias' strips, the name of the story was written in morse.
No, Prohias put "By Prohias" in his own strips too. The Morse reads "-... -.-- .--. .-. --- .... .. .- ..." on every one of them, including the ones done by other artists/writers like Duck Edwing, Bob Clarke or Dave Manak. Madamluna 20:53, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Almost all of this should be moved to the page on Spy vs. Spy. This page should focus on Antonio Prohias the person, about whom far less is commonly known. Richard K. Carson 07:22, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I exaggerated a bit when I said that "almost all" of this should be moved. I hope I did not offend. I think the Spy vs. Spy article would benefit from some of what is here, and I might like to move some (not "almost all") of this over there, provided it would not violate the integrity of this article. I might add a few facts, but I don't want to change anything that is here, except possibly to move it. In the meantime, I shall go sit in the corner. Richard K. Sure, go right ahead. I was actually planning on asking here if a characters section would be welcomed but it hadn't looked like a very active page so I just went and did it. Feel free to move it if you want. Madamluna

Re: "Play Pictionary with the MAD Artists" (#284, January 1989, pp. 14-15), "Gluttony" panel: I have this issue and this panel was definitely not drawn by Prohias. It was done by Bob Clarke. It was during the period when Spy vs. Spy was drawn by other artists but still attributed to Prohias.

More about Spy vs Spy

[edit]

It says he originated it, but that's it. I think there should be more about how he came up with it, how he hooked up with Mad, etc. It's sort of sketchy. --AW (talk) 04:59, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would be nice to have external reference(s) in the biographical section, particularly the part about being denied entry to Italy. Peter Chastain (talk) 12:03, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An artist with editorial ink in his veins, he always argued: "Do not say it with words, say it with drawings." Without dialogues for his characters, he communicated his silent style with tremendous creative genius."

Tavarich: typo?

[edit]

I'm only reading this casually, but it appears the section heading "Tavarich" is a typo for "Tovarich." The summary paragraph seems to refer to the same thing as "Tovarich" which is the Russian word. 76.117.49.56 (talk) 03:06, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
