POV[edit]

Editors have tilted toward POV and bias in their use of materials on Comer related to his use of convict lease labor, issues related to mining, and child labor in the textile mills. Including lengthy quotes about his brother's cruelties is not appropriate, as it seems an effort to prove guilt by association. Also, the tone of how the facts are conveyed should be more neutral. He was not the only one of the elite using convict labor on plantations or operating mills that used child labor (factories in the North did, too). The presentation needs some balance and neutrality.Parkwells (talk) 11:14, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Repetition and tone[edit]

Some points are repeated at length; I have edited to make sections more concise. The ending section of legacy now has a summary, with the sources, rather than repeating all the accusations against him. The outrage is understandable, but the encyclopedia article has to be objective in tone. Editors need to work on this article to achieve that.Parkwells (talk) 12:25, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Use facts accurately[edit]

Editors may be conflating material; while Comer may have supported white supremacy and disfranchisement of blacks, Alabama did not really make this happen until its new constitution was passed in 1901, with an additional suffrage amendment in 1903. This incorporated provisions for poll taxes, literacy tests and grandfather clauses which excluded most blacks and many poor whites from voting. Sources must be cited to give specific laws before that date if intending to prove that Comer was involved more specifically in the 1880s, for instance.Parkwells (talk) 13:18, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Historical context[edit]

The article has undue weight given to all the terrible conditions at the time, without always being clear about precisely what Comer (and not his brother, or Alabama society, or other states in the South), can specifically be accused of. I think some of the generalities need to be reduced in favor of sticking to Comer and what he was involved in. Yes, he benefited by a family business that exploited African Americans and was absolutely of his time in that sense.Parkwells (talk) 16:18, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Irrelevant/Misplaced Information[edit]

Much of the information on this page relates to BB Comer's brother, JW,and not to BB Comer. A new page for JW Comer should be created where this information would be more relevant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by P0bbnB (talkcontribs) 15:58, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

not a good guy[edit]

What about his role in the death of voters in Eufaula Alabama? 206.85.96.70 (talk) 12:54, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is very well documented and needs to be addressed on this page. IndyClio (talk) 20:05, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
