Vice Bune[edit]

The reference to this figure should probably be deleted until independent documentary evidence of his activities can be found. The only reference to Bune's being in the Pacific is other WP sites. See extensive discussion at [1]--Nickm57 (talk) 23:09, 11 December 2007 (UTC) In addition, the statement "During the 17th and 18th centuries, Ragusean traders from the Adriatic were nearly the only Europeans visiting there" is quite incorrect. There is not a single piece of evidence to support it. As these comments about Vice Bunes and the Ragusean trade etc were all made by an anonymous user on 28 October 2006, I feel its time to verify or remove them. I do not think these are hoaxes at all. Melanesians to this day have multiple Croatian words such as mali, veli, debeli, kotar, boca, kolo, kanap, palenta. Furthermore there are numerous slavic toponyms from the Bismarck Archipeligo to the Solomon Islands to Vanuatu. E.g. island of Siroti (poor people) and island of Jame (caves). There is also a bay of Buka (noisy bay). Then in the Solomons there are volcanoes Kula (tower) and Kollovrat (round neck). There is even a cape called "Sokolovi" (falcons). There are many more I have not listed. Vice Bune Petrov was a decorated naval commander who not only mastered the Indian Ocean through his travels to Goa but frequented the Pacific from the Philippines to Vanuatu. Much of the documentation on his travels in the Pacific are located in the archives of Dubrovnik, and also some in Spain. A lack of knowledge among the colonialist encyclopaedias of the west is not a reason to dismiss this as an hoax. Tommy1441 (talk) 12:41, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting, but apparently original research. Very similar arguments to those used by a certain Dr. Lovric on Latin WP and Simple Eng WP, long since discredited because of lack of any evidence - other than his own. By the way - despite the myth that all Vice Bune history is held in obscure archives , readers interested in the real story of Vice Bune can find an excellent summary by Dr Anica Kisic at [2]. Sailing 30,000 years ago![edit]

There is no evidence I know of to categorically state that sailing was possible this far back in our past. Although boat use is often cited in ice age periods, this is often only regarded as the only possible explanation. I beg to differ, and believe that an uplift of the Earth's crust creating a temporary land bridge is often more likely. Appearing and disappearing temporary land bridges, some of them quite extravagantly long, were resorted to in the days before [[plate tectonics][] was understood. But not recently. Uplifts and downlifts belong in department stores. Wetman (talk) 03:28, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Population[edit]

Why not this article tell what were population of the Bismarck Archipelago in the PNG 2000 Population Census? Articles about New Irweland and N. Britain tells islands population, and also article about Islands Region. But anyway, I really wanna know that what's the population of Bismarck Archipelago in the latest census 2000. Please if somebody know the population write it to the article. It can be also newest -why I can't find population of 2010? Did't PNF do Census after 2000?
