Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Penychain (holiday camp) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RM bot 16:01, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Main representative image[edit]

Much as I'm flattered that someone chose my image as the "main" one for the article, I don't entirely agree with the choice, hence my swapping its position for a more modern one. However, it has been swapped back with the rationale:-

Swapping the images now places an Butlins era image in the haven section, and inserts an unrepresentitive image in the infobox

However, the infobox is not tied specifically to Butlins or the Butlins era. Indeed, the original (and current) positioning has the 25-year-old Butlins-era image misleadingly appear directly below the current Haven logo(!) and its current name ("Craig Tara")... so I'm not sure that the rationale above makes sense.

In addition, I believe that where a camp still has an *ongoing* existence (not entirely unrelated to its original use), and the article covers this in comparable depth, that people would expect (preferably) to see a more recent image that showed its present state (not how it appeared 25 years ago, when it was already due for refurbishment!)

Had the article been purely or primarily historical, I would probably feel differently, but this discussion implies that the choice of the Butlin's name for the article is purely as because its the most recognised one.

FWIW, I feel that the 1985 image definitely *does* belong in the article- but as part of the historical context, and not the main image!

If we had a modern photograph of the camp that was representative then I would probably agree, but WP:Images says " Lead images should be images that are natural and appropriate visual representations of the topic " I don't feel that a modern picture of the reception building is representative of the whole camp. Despite it's age the photograph in the lead is a good representation of the camp and both the present day and historical buildings. My mid 80's photographs are slightly less representative than yours as I think many of the buildings in them have all been demolished. Personally I think this should be a historical article as it already is primarily historical and nearly all the major sources are historical and there is little to say about the haven period (at the moment) but I know that there is a move for current details in the article by some editors (hence the frequent RMs on the name - at both the pwllheli and minehead articles). If there's no objections I would be happy to make changes to the infobox to change it to a historical format and then look at rolling the change out to other camps like this..
