"probiotics" incorrectly used[edit]

This article includes the phrase "produced by beneficial colonic bacteria (probiotics)" which is an inaccurate usage of the term "probiotics", which is not equivalent to "beneficial microbes" but rather, according to wikipidia itself, "live microorganisms intended to provide health benefits when consumed", which meaning is not the apparent intent of the sentence in this article.

Article is to be merged with Butyric acid[edit]

Following a discussion at WT:WikiProject_Chemicals#Carboxylic_acids_vs_carboxylate_anion/esters it is proposed to merge this article with the one for Butyric acid and turn Butyrate into a redirect. This is likely to be done within a couple of days unless anyone objects. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:00, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Merger has been done, with this article's history preserved in association with the pre-merger page. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:22, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
