More in Hersh[edit]

There's much more info to be mined from Hersh's The Old Boys if anyone is looking to expand this entry. I'm not sure what to do with some of Hersh's characterizations, which often have a certain anti-gay and anti-Italian edge (fawning, swarthy). It does seem that Offie's behavior attracted comment and in photos he doesn't look like the WASPs he worked for. But we need to pull that sort of characterization and distinguishing characteristics from his contemporaries, I think, not from Hersh's rather dramatic presentation. Nicholas Poppe[edit]

In Carmel Offie's page it says Nicholas Poppe was involved in planning the Holocaust. However, if you go to Poppe's page there is nothing about that. It mentions that the Wannsee Institut is not to be confused with the Wannsee Conference, but the Institut's page is also rather barebones and just says they did research on the Soviet Union. I haven't read the book the citation is from, although googling Poppe's name with the Holocaust turned up this: http://nova.wpunj.edu/newpolitics/issue23/oppenh23.htm At any rate, if Poppe's role can be verified, it certainly seems like it should be added to his own page. That's an interesting source you found. It mentions Poppe's work at the East Asia Institute in Czechoslovakia. I've added a quote from the source already in the Offie entry to the appropriate footnote. It's quite specific and mentions the Ost-Assen [probably Ost-Asien] Institute. And there's no Wannsee confusion at all. It does seem that Poppe's page could use some work. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 19:27, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
