Notability[edit]

  • Additional sources and citations have been added to confirm Caroline Miller's political contributions and recent success on local Portland radio. She is well known throughout the Oregon political community and State legislature and has taught english at both the high school and university levels in Oregon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Protecthumanbeings (talkcontribs) 19:39, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Protecthumanbeings, thanks for the citations. There's no dispute Miller exists. It's still unclear if she meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Here are the options:
  • Notable writer: WP:AUTHOR applies, but none of the four guidelines are met.
  • Notable politician: WP:POLITICIAN applies, but doesn't appear to meet any of the three guidelines.
  • Notable radio host: WP:ENT applies, not met. Further, having appeared on a radio show doesn't make one notable.
In the general case, WP:GNG can be used. Again, I don't see anything proving that- you say she is "well known" in communities, but by who? Average teachers and professors aren't inherently notable, nor are minor politicians. Further, google news returns a complete blank, and it should at least find references in the Oregonian and/or minor papers like Willamette Week. A search for "Caroline Miller" brings up a good example of an author who is notable: the award-winning Caroline Miller.
As an aside, I have a newfound respect for NAU, after a student thesis from the 1970s helped me research an overlooked topic on Wikipedia. tedder (talk) 23:41, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Note: A comment on the WikiProject Oregon blog indicates that the "B" initial may be in error…which may explain why that particular search string came up blank. -Pete (talk) 21:47, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello tedder, thanks very much for above clarifications. This wiki should be preserved under rule 1 for notability of Politicans: "Politicians who have held international, national or sub-national (statewide/provincewide) office, and members and former members of a national, state or provincial legislature and judges." Caroline Miller has made substantial contributions to political and public life in America - heading a National U.S. Labor Union - and achieving U.S. public office three times at a sub-national level in Oregon. This is more than just running for public office, or being unelected. These are tangible achievements that are difficult to achieve and should definitely not be dismissed as 'not notable enough'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Protecthumanbeings (talkcontribs) 01:13, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Google news does pull up results for Miller as a Oregon County Commissioner. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Protecthumanbeings (talkcontribs) 01:22, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Watch Caroline Miller on national U.S. television in February 2010 being interviewed about her novels. Interestingly, she discusses the struggle women have had been deliberately kept out the media by sexism, and how women are discriminated against by people who think they're not 'not notable enough' to warrant fair inclusion in public life. After being an elected national Oregon politican and heading a U.S. labor union, she's definitely 'notable' enough to be included in a fair way on wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Protecthumanbeings (talkcontribs) 18:47, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added some links and did a little cleaning up - more work needed[edit]

I have added a few links at the suggestion of Ms. Miller in private email correspondence (after checking them out), and done a minor amount of expanding the information and cleaning-up of links. Article could definitely be improved by one who knows more about it than I. --Martha (talk) 05:42, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
