Central Jail RawalpindiAdiala JailWP:COMMONNAME: A lot more sources for Adiala Jail than Central Jail Rawalpindi Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 00:32, 30 January 2024 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). – robertsky (talk) 22:36, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • This seems OK in principle but it should probably be Adiala jail not Jail, per MOS:CAPS as it's not consistently capitalized in sources.  — Amakuru (talk) 08:13, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would disagree with this. Clearly a proper name, even if not the official name. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:05, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Adiala Jail is frequently referred to as a complete name, so my interpretation is that if "Jail" is included in the name, it should be capitalized. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 21:39, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, it's sometimes capitalised, but the bar for treating something as a proper name in MOS:CAPS is that it be "consistently capitalized in a substantial majority of reliable sources". In fact, we see a very mixed bag. Ngrams show a slight lead for capitalised version, but nowhere near that substantial majority bar. And sources not capitalising jail include these: [1][2][3]. I suspect that because it is the common name, but not the official name, many sources are simply treating it as a descriptive noun rather than a proper noun.  — Amakuru (talk) 07:54, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I notice that many sources capitalize "Jail," and since we already have a redirect for it, all we need to do is transfer the current page to that redirect. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 22:54, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When some source use caps and others don't, Wikipedia prefers WP:LOWERCASE. — BarrelProof (talk) 18:31, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, let's use "Adiala jail." Also, take into account how other jail articles are named on Wikipedia. If most of them are capitalized, I'll still advocate for capitalization. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 19:05, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If moved at all, I still support Adiala Jail. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:28, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move to Adiala Jail per Necrothesp and SheriffIsInTown (the proposer). Adiala Jail is the common title. HistoriesUnveiler (talk) 16:48, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
