self-published sources??[edit]

I'm unclear what is intended by the self-published sources template. If there is a problem it is the current complete lack of sources but that is not surprising given that it is currently little more than a stub. His published books are published by established third-party publishers. If the thinking behind the tag isn't explained I'll remove it.Dejvid (talk) 15:16, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The primary problem is that this person's only sourced claim to notability is his list of publications. The article contains no other sources. I suppose we could change the tag to unsourced if you'd rather. A prod tag would probably be useful. People aren't notable simply for publishing. They need to meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. I see no reviews of the author or the author's works. I also see no indication of any awards or other sourced facts that would support the notion of notability. "written by the subject" is not the same as self-published so, yes, please change the tag. I will still probably be disagreeing with you but it would be helpful to know what I have to argue against. He was a big name in the wargameing community so it ought to be possible to track down a few obituaries in the wargameing press from that time.Dejvid (talk) 18:12, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

this is a problem with wikipedia users, too much reliance upon only what is available online so stuff that is undoubtedly notable (like Charles Grant) are far too easily thought of as not notable because he was around in pre-internet days. Mathmo Talk 03:45, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But if we all make it our task to add at least one ref then Rklawton will be happy.Dejvid (talk) 10:40, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
