Chout vs. Choute[edit]

The spelling Chout seems to have come via French. Yet, most French people would look at it and say "shoo", not "shoot". To get the final t sounding, they'd need to spell it "Choute", wouldn't they? Mostly, when I've heard the work referred to on radio, broadcasters who are unfamiliar with the fact that it's not a French word but a Russian word romanized into quasi-French say "shoo". It seems to be ready-made for confusion. Can anyone explain why it's spelled the way it is? -- JackofOz (talk) 21:41, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
