Information applicable also to the C. julii?[edit]

@Tryptofish I was looking for sources to cite for the portion on breeding. I did not find anything specifically on the C. julii, but I found this article. It seems as if this was the source for the information in the Wikipedia entry on C. julii, but the original source article refers to the C. aeneus. Would it be correct to assume that what the article says about one species of corydoras automatically applies to the C. julii, and on that basis cite the article for the C. julii? No. Unless the source actually says that the information is about C. julii, or says explicitly that the information applies to all species in the genus, then it violates WP:SYNTH to extrapolate from one species to the other. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:25, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I put a tag in the relevant sections. LaivineOrodrim (talk) 23:32, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect image[edit]

The image used for C. julii is in fact a pair of spawning C. trilineatus. C. trilineatus is known commonly as the 'false julii'. 80.7.78.104 (talk) 12:59, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for pointing that out! I replaced it with a different image. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:41, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately you replaced it with another image of a C. trilineatus. Sadly, most photographs available on the Internet are also incorrect, even from sites that appear authoritative. PlanetCatfish has a selection of (to my eye at least) correctly-identified images which show the typical spotted pattern of C. julii. 80.7.78.104 (talk) 12:58, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I changed it to the only image I could find at Wikimedia Commons that has the spotted look of those other images. Please let me know if that's better or not (if not, we'll just go with no image for the time being), and thanks again for your help on this. --Tryptofish (talk) 21:27, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That image is good. It's unfortunately impossible to identify purely from an image; known catch location or at least a documented history of importers and breeders is the only way to be sure whether a fish is C. julii or C. trilineatus, despite their different geographical origins. But that image is visually typical of my own breeding group of C. julii, so 100% better than the previous ones. Thanks - I created an account because you've made this feel like a friendly place. Thanks, I'm so glad! --Tryptofish (talk) 18:08, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
