Edit Request 10-4-23[edit]

I work with Crisis Text Line and understand I'm not allowed to edit this article myself. I have several requests to make, primarily to update the information, restructure some content to make it more concise, tighten the phrasing, improve sourcing and more closely follow Wikipedia's manual of style, including standardizing the ref formatting. Thank you for your help.

  1. Please change the founders infobox field formatting to remove the "&" sign. The box template doesn't like the "=" sign, so I made it nowiki.

    Crisis Text Line is a global nonprofit organization providing free and confidential text-based mental health support and crisis intervention by texting HELLO to 741741.[1] The organization launched in 2013, and its services are available 24 hours a day throughout the United States, Canada, UK, and Ireland. As of August 2023, the organization reported that it had supported over 8 million support conversations.[2]

  6. Please revise and shorten the second sentence of the history section to

  7. Just below that, please edit the Glamour ref to remove the non-standard parameters group= and ref=2. This is the text that should be the third sentence.

  8. Please remove the "In September 2015, Crisis Text Line" paragraph. It's sourced with a employee blog post, and isn't really necessary, since it's obvious that texting is better for deaf and hard of hearing people.  Done
  9. Please add this to 2017 history. The named ref is in the article as a New York Times piece.
    By 2017, the Crisis Text Line was partnering with over close to 200 city- and state-level agencies, as well as other services offering support for eating disorders, addiction, suicide prevention and other issues.[5]
  10. Please remove the final sentence of the 2018 history paragraph. The info is outdated and is poorly sourced anyway with a primary company source.
    The text line plans to eventually have at least one affiliate in every country.[6]

  11. Please update the last sentence of the 2020 history section with this improved ref code for the CNN source, and add the announcement of the new CEO.
    In response the Board terminated Lublin and replaced two Board members.[7] Dena Trujillo became Interim CEO in 2020 and was named CEO in October 2021.[7]

  12. Please add this next item chronologically to the history section. At this point it should be the last item. It's in Spanish but I assume that's allowed.
    In 2021, Crisis Text Line launched a Spanish language service to improve service accessibility for Spanish speakers.[8]

    In May 2022, Nike announced its new podcast No Off-Season, which featured difficult conversations surrounding mental health topics. Told from the perspective of the brand’s top athletes, each episode was guided by mental health experts Crisis Text Line’s Chief Health Officer Dr. Shairi Turner and Global Expansion Director Natalia Dayan.[10]

I'd like to remove or consolidate into a new "Operations" section a lot of the administration, crisis counselors, strategy, data collection, use of algorithms and crisis trends information, to eliminate trivial/non-essential info, and improve the sourcing of what's left. This is going to be the most time-consuming part to review. I'll post the new operations section in its entirety. My suggestion to the reviewer would be to replace all the sections after the history section with this, and compare to see what I removed and what I kept. Once again, the box template doesn't like the == section code, so I put in nowiki tags at the beginning, and also had to put in artificial </br> tags for formatting purposes.

    People who are in any type of crisis can reach out to the text line and expect to be connected with a crisis counselor. Text messaging has been shown to be an effective way to do crisis counseling, due to its popularity with its target young audience, and the anonymity it provides.[5] If the texter is in imminent risk of suicide or harm and is unwilling to separate themselves from the means of harm and create a safety plan, emergency services may be contacted in order to ensure the safety of the texter.[5]
    The text line is notable among hotlines for its triage system, in which conversations are assessed by an algorithm for severity and queued accordingly, as opposed to being queued chronologically.[12] This identifies the most vulnerable texters (including those at imminent risk for suicide).[13] Crisis Text Line’s service is powered by volunteer Crisis Counselors who receive 30 hours of free comprehensive training, which is virtual, interactive, self-paced and in English and Spanish. Clinical supervisors, with degrees in mental health-related fields, monitor every conversation, give feedback in real-time and provide additional support when necessary for volunteer Crisis Counselors.[3] The skills volunteers gain from the training also help them support their family and friends as well as navigate their own mental health.[12]

    Crisistrends.org was launched in August 2014 to collect and analyze anonymized texting data derived from the activities of the Crisis Text Line platform.[4] The data is used to display crisis trends according to texter gender, age, race, and ethnicity. It is shared with the public to help decrease stigma around mental health support.[2] Research agencies and institutions also can have access to this data for research purposes.[14]
    Crisis Text Line has many open data partnerships, one of them being a collaboration with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory that aims to predict and prevent veteran suicides.[15]
