POV discussion

The insistence that David Moffat was "vain" (even implied) is not a neutral viewpoint, especially when asserted without citation. Who said he was "vain?" Neither Bollinger or Athearn said he was "vain." This is not representing fairly, proportionately, and as far as possible without bias David Moffat's view of business, the risks he chose to take and the reasons for building his railroad over Rollins. Bollinger in Rails That Climbs explains Moffat's reasons for building over Rollin's and those reasons did not include vanity. I am flagging this for NPOV and this should be edited to a more reasonable view of the history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Garandguy (talk • contribs) 22:56, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

I've tagged the two places where it says he is vain. I don't see an overall problem with POV on the article so I've removed the tag. Without being able to examine the sources used, I didn't feel I could remove the passages altogether since there is important information contained in them. I also don't think characterizing the man as "vain" is necessarily a violation of WP:NPOV. He could indeed have pursued his railroad ambitions to fuel his own ego and yet that wouldn't take away from his accomplishments or preclude other motivations. Feel free to rewrite the two sentences to remove the characterization but leave the other information. Valfontis (talk) 22:38, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
