GA[edit]

I have reviewed the article according to the standards of the GA criteria. I have put the article on hold until a few things are fixed.

  1. Expand the lead a little. You can mention at least a statement about its use in the film. Speaking of the film, you could consider creating an article for the film so the section has a link to the film. If you desire to do so, make sure to follow the guidelines of WP:Films. You can always do that later of course. {film article= Done) IvoShandor 09:04, 14 March 2007 (UTC) {Lead expansion=  Done IvoShandor 09:32, 15 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
  2. There are two cases of an inline citation coming before the punctuation (one in the infobox), make sure they go directly after the punctuation with no spaces. Done
  3. Add wikilinks for: Bedford, Indiana, Done
  4. "went so far as to", consider rewording this in the First courthouse section. This includes "political shenanigans"; as some readers may construe this as POV, even if that's not the intent. Done
  5. In the second paragraph of the First Courthouse section, I think "atating" is supposed to be "stating". Done
  6. Add a comma after Kimball Dow in the Second courthouse section. Include a hyphen in "two story". Done
  7. Consider rewriting this statement "The three men were also directed to stipulate the building was to be brick and 60 by 40 feet wide." to "The three men were also directed to construct the building to be made out of bricks and be 60 by 40 feet wide." Or something to that effect. Done
The thing is that they didn't really construct the building, I have had trouble with this sentence. I will find something workable though.IvoShandor 04:33, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. There are a few statements throughout the article that are short. You could probably combine a pair of sentences to make for some better prose. Done - Pretty much, will look for any additional needs. Please note them if you still see any. IvoShandor 08:58, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. If you can, add the exact dates that these buildings were constructed/opened. That way you can link the whole date and it will be more accurate.
I will see if they were in my sources and add.IvoShandor 04:33, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done - Pretty much. Dates of ground breaking and completion for current building added. The other two buildings are as accurate as can be without consulting my inner historian (see your talk page). IvoShandor 08:58, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. There are a few single sentences that are standing by themselves. Either incorporate them into another paragraph or expand it by adding a few more statements. Done
  2. "Heavily carved stone brackets support a lintel over the main doors on the building's south, and front, facade." Remove the commas after south and front, and make facade plural. Done--Removed confusing wording.IvoShandor 04:33, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. "The four columns dominating the front extend two stories and blend Ionic and Corinthian elements as the ascend from the second floor to the cornice level of the courthouse." Correct to "as they ascend". Done
  4. "The north, rear, side of the DeKalb County Courthouse is not as ornately decorated as the south face but has its own distinctive qualities." Fix the sentence to "The north, rear, and sides of the DeKalb County Courthouse are not as ornately decorated as the south face but each has its own distinctive qualities." Done--Cleared up wording. IvoShandor 04:33, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  5. It would be really great if you could include at least one more section or two to help fulfill the article's broad requirement. "The district joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1978." is mentioned in the intro, but nowhere else. Consider talking about any historical cases that took place there, the future of the building, more focus on the interior of the building, any other awards/significant events about the building, etc.
Sections added: "Circuit court history," discusses a few notable cases with more, of course, to be added (again, see your talk page). "Significance"- talks of its value to the historic district and its inclusion as a contributing property. The building won no awards that I can find, this of course could be added if info surfaces during my more in depth research (for the eventual FA (aka "Old College") Try. IvoShandor 08:58, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"Interior" section added in architecture. IvoShandor 11:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good job getting all of the free images, this is the first article in a while without a copyrighted image (though if you can, perhaps get a screenshot from the film). I am going to put the article on seven days and will fail it if the above items are not fixed (except some of the suggestions that you don't think are relevant/don't need). If you don't think you can fix these within that time, just let me know and I'll fail it for now and you can resubmit it for GAC and I'll look it over again right away if you let me know. When you finish these suggestions or if you have any questions, please contact me on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

The images, save the PD one, I took myself. : ) IvoShandor 08:58, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I would like the full seven days to attempt to fulfill these requests/comments. Thanks. Done tags added (except for items #1, #7, #8, #9, #14. IvoShandor 04:33, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure which ones are still not "{{done}}". IvoShandor 08:58, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA passed[edit]

I have passed this article according to the GA criteria. Excellent work on expanding the article and creating the film article. Just to let you know, if you're into the serial comma or not, you can add one after "doors" in "The furnishings in the courtroom, including the chandeliers, plasterwork, beveled glass doors and stained glass work are all original." That's not a requirement, but you can change it if you want. Also for the swastika statement, consider rewording it to something like "The railings are decorated with the swastika symbol, and although the symbol has mostly been associated with Nazi Germany, it has been traced back as far as the 3rd millennium B.C.E. in Asia. Finally, disappeared is spelled wrong in the third paragraph of the Circuit court history section. These are just a few things you can change if you want. Keep expanding if you can, but good job bringing it this far. Keep up the good work in continuing to improve the quality of articles on Wikipedia. --Nehrams2020 22:04, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats Ivo! I personally add comma after all series, like we were taught in school, but for some reason when listing a series now, it is becoming more common not to put it before the contraction, which doesn't make awhole lot of sense to me I guess. Something I have gotten into a debate about before. Anyways, congrats!--Kranar drogin 11:01, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
