Jail

I found this in an article on ASkmen.com. I think this should be added because it adds more to his biography and life. Also I have always wondered what Eminem meant in the song guilty Conscience by 'you gunna take advice from somebody who slapped Dee barnes'. Also if somebody knew who the fellow record-producer was, and what the conditions of his parole were, that should be added.

In 1991, Dr. Dre was charged with assaulting TV host Dee Barnes, and the following year he hit a police officer at a New Orleans hotel and broke the jaw of a fellow record-producer. In 1995, Dre spent 5 months in a Pasadena City Jail for violating parole. He was back in court in 2001, but this time teaming up with Metallica (particularly Lars Ulrich) in their efforts to bring Napster down.

Why brother

In one section I see Dre is referred to as Young and Snoop as Broadus, this was an edit from an old version using aliases. Why even bother changing this? They are more famous under aliases.

Early Career

This article just looks like a commercial for Dr. Dre. Where are the early parts of his career? Where are those pictures from the 70s when he was dressed in tights looking for a music career in any kind of music? The biography starts with the beginning of his rap career. There is nothing about his childhood, his upbringing, or any other information other than his image. This really needs to be remedied.

Beef with Suge

It's simple. Dre left Death Row Records abruptly without giving Suge nor most people at Death Row any warning. Death Row is notorious for treating the company like a 'crime family'. Leaving "the family" on disrespectful terms was unforgivable. It might sound extreme to the average individual but that is what they believed in as a company. There's more than that. Suge was trying to boss Dre around, telling artists that Dre would produce their albums. Originally, 2Pac's "California Love" was going to be one of Dre's own songs but Suge made him put Pac on it. He got fed up with that kind of shit and left. Plus he doesn't even own his own songs that he produced while he was at deathrow. Thats why there will probably never be a complete Dr. Dre greatest hits. Would it be fair to say that Dr. Dre launched the career of The Game as well? It mentions Snoop Dogg, Eminem, but to keep it up to date, wouldn't game be a worthy addition? Big Daddy Kane & Dr. Dre

The song "Keep Their Heads Ringin'" (1995) by Dr. Dre contains Almsot exactly the same flow as in the song "Ain't No Half Steppin'" by Big Daddy Kane which came out came out in 1988. This is espeically shown in the second verse of "Ain't No Half Steppin'". Could it be Dr. Dre was inspired by this? or copied it, did they know each other? I dont know myself but its something that could be looked into and added.

Seperate Sections

In the article, there should be seperate sections for Dr. Dre's "beefs" (Suge Knight & Eazy-E come to mind). Also, there should be a section dedicated to Dr. Dre's proteges and his role in their careers (Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kurupt?, Daz & The Game come to mind).

I agree about a section for the beefs but i don't think we need a while section for who he's worked with.

Amendment needs making

I remember reading an iterview from the source back in 96' 97' that he left because Suge knight was signing people to Deathrow and telling them Dre would be doing thier album. Dre did not produce the majority of eminems slim shady lp

From Dr Dre wikipedia article.

To say that he produced eminems first album insinuates that he did all if not the majority.

Dre did not produce the majority of eminems slim shady lp, the bass brothers did. Dr Dre produced "my name is", "guilty conscience", "Role Model". That would be 3 out of 20 tracks (including skits). The rest of the albums production is credited to Jeff Bass, Marky Bass & Marshall Mathers. Even though dr dre was responsible for eminems rise to fame, to say he produced his debut lp is incorrect.

Vandalism

I've noticed some vandalism last week, and although I corrected some of it (I changed Dre's birthyear from 1654 (!) to 1965), I haven't taken out nearly all the mistakes - mainly because I'm just not that well informed about the man). It's a little embarrassing to see Dre linked to Marlowe, and to have that blatant act of farting in the elevator remain there for way too long. Could someone please clean up?

-Could someone please edit the RIAA for The Chronic? It says 10xPlatinum. The album actually went 3 to 4xPlatinum.

Deleted the Marlowe references and other spoof entries, re-sectioned the biography into chronological sections. The entry is looking a lot better now.

Concerning the RIAA rating: On the article to the album Chronic 2001 it is written, that it has gone 6 x Platinum. Can someone confirm and unify the unify this data please?

Dr. Dre needs own discography article

-I disagree...listing every track dre's been involved with thoroughly is a HUGE job and would make this article twice as long...I think its better listing everything he's done as a solo artist and leaving his production to a whole other article...maybe we could find a way to increase the font on the link, so people are more likely to go to it, or move a link to it to the top of the page so people see it right off. -Jeffjrstewart

The NWA article says theres a reunion album coming out. Is there any validity to this?

LMAO Yella is still alive and Ice Cube and Dr. Dre made up after the NWA break-up (Natural Born Killaz). Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Snoop then released a song as "NWA" called "Chin Check". MC Ren and Dr. Dre appeared on the Ice Cube song "Hello" (War & Peace Vol. 2 (The Peace Disc)). Dr. Dre was going to produce an album for Ice Cube after 50 Cent's debut, but plans changed when 50 Cents record did well (Dre chose 50 Cent's second album over an album with Ice Cube). Definition of Producer

The definition of producer in the section "Allegations of Ghost Writers" is a little skewed. It currently states:

In music, the role of producer is often simply given to the person who "creates the beat", be it through the use of a drum machine, keyboards, or even simply choosing samples and looping them.

This is only correct in the field of rap and hip-hop - e.g. Phil Spector, a noted producer, never wrote music for the Beatles. Likewise, Bob Rock didn't create beats for Metallica, but he did produce several albums for them. In other genres, producer carries the second meaning given later in the article:

However, the role of producer has generally been understood to mean controlling recording sessions, guiding performers, and supervising the recording, mixing and mastering processes.

Therefore, I suggest editing the paragraph to read thusly:

Some of the controversy may stem from a dispute over what the term "producer" means in music. In rap music, the role of producer is often simply given to the person who "creates the beat", be it through the use of a drum machine, keyboards, or even simply choosing samples and looping them. By this definition, allegations that Young was not the "real" producer of some tracks credited to him can have merit. I think what Dre does is clear. Other producers make beats. Dre makes hits. Most of the producers he works with are there for a reason. They can make beats or part of a beat but Dre has a knack for taking beats and making a song out of it. You'll notice Mel-Man didn't have much success when he left Aftermath.
