Untitled[edit]

Thanks everyone for adding to this page. It is an impressive building. If memory serves me correctly, the castle was also nearly impervious to attacks until the advent of teh cannon, because of its position on the outcropping. mylesmalley 15:58, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think this should be saved. It needs expanding, but Dunluce Castle appears to be a valid place and probably has some interesting history.

A few things[edit]

I removed the phrase "(apparently she hated the place anyway)" from the end of the sentence declaring that the wife of the owner refused to live there after the castle collapsed. It's unreferenced and doesn't sound overly encyclopaedic. Also, I think the article should be heavily expanded, with a few more pictures, as well as references provided for the information. For example, as far as I know, the information that it is the most extensive ruins of a medieval castle in Ireland is correct, but referencing is needed. I think it should have a high importance rating due to its influence on the history of the surrounding area and that it is a fantastically well preserved castle with a lot of history. Image copyright problem with Image:Hoth2.PNG[edit]

The image Image:Hoth2.PNG is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Dunluce volcano ?[edit]

The article was recently categorized, then reverted (incorrectly IMHO, although in GF and I'm not certain whether I agree with the cats anyway) and I've re-cat'ed it to spark some debate.

It was added to:

Category:Volcanoes of Northern Ireland
Category:Paleogene volcanoes
Category:Extinct volcanoes

Now the question is, Slieve Gullion is a volcano in NI. Giant's Causeway and the outcrop beneath Dunluce castle are instead intrusive basalt sills, associated with vulcanism - but does this make them strictly "volcanoes" ? On the whole I think they ought to be added to Category:Volcanoes of Northern Ireland, but I'm unsure about the other two (they're implied through the category anyway). As this category is clearly intended to encompass Dunluce & Giant's Causeway (it would be a bit lonely with just Slieve Gullion and maybe Ailsa Craig), is the best solution to rename the cat to something a little broader Volcanic features of ... perhaps?

There is a wider discussion going on about this topic and other associated topics at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Volcanoes, in the section "Rename "Volcanoes of" categories to "Volcanism of" instead". Two or three of its previous threads also discuss it. Volcanic features are frequently added to these categories, but there's been some disagreement over whether all of them can formally be called "volcanoes". - Gilgamesh (talk) 14:46, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

kitchen[edit]

I just visited the castle and the tour guide said the kitchen did not fall! The kitchen is intact and I have photos of it. Only the old residence part collapsed...long after it was abandoned. I have photos I can pick out a nice one and attack. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.65.49.155 (talk) 15:36, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
