Ambassador

[edit]

Although the title "Ambassador" was not used in the United States diplomatic service until 1893, the post, which in modern English is described as ambassador, did. I have used the word "ambassador" in the lead advisedly. It is lower case for the post, not capitalized for the title. Use of the word ambassador helps readers understand his position. The article itself makes clear in the text that his title was US Minister to Hayti. Note that the spelling "Haiti" is used in the lead, instead of the prevalent 1869 spelling of "Hayti". --Bejnar (talk) 18:42, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
