I totally disagree that a merge is pointless, and I do object to you doing the redirect. A merge is exactly what should happen. This is NOT a separate entity. Many sports teams get bought out, change names, and even move cities, but they are the SAME franchise. For example, there is no "Vancouver Grizzlies" article, just the Memphis Grizzlies. There is no "Los Angeles Rams" article, just the St. Louis Rams.Greg Salter (talk) 14:58, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, since you've gone off on a tangent, I find that editorial decision within the baseball and football projects ridiculous. I personally support the use of separate articles for franchises that relocate. There is, for example, an Atlanta Flames article to go with the Calgary Flames article, even though it is the same franchise. In fact, within baseball, there remains a Montreal Expos article, and a very, very strong consensus to leave it that way.
Anyway, my point about simply redirecting this article is the fact that there is nothing to merge. The only piece of information this article contains is "team was bought, name dropped, will be renamed". That already exists at Edmonton Cracker-Cats. And, as you say, this is a simple rename, not a franchise relocation. This article is pointless and redundant. Resolute 15:56, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
