Speedy defense

I would like to defend this page from speedy deletion since I have read several articles in notable publications that cite Mr. Green's work in order to show that condoms are not the exclusive, sufficient and satisfying answer to the AIDS crisis in Africa and elsewhere. Whether this page passes the WP:CSD requirements or not is up to an administrator, but you should note that if those are the only sources you can find that refer to Mr. Green then this page will eventually have to be deleted because it will not comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. Edits from "subject"

Since the edits came from an anonymous IP, it's a bit tough to tell if that was actually Mr. Green or not. If you are, I suggest you read the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons guidelines before editing again.

When you do edit again, make sure that you don't remove cited information and replace it with uncited information -- that will almost certainly be reverted quickly.

reasons for changes to page of Edward C. Green

I just made some changes to Edward C. Green's page, including removing some content, and the "comment" section didn't give me enough room to post my whole comment so here it is:

not necessary to include so much info on controversy over Pope statement (criticism of Pope not directly related to Green, and this is a minor incident in Green’s 30 year career); “suspicious” reference to Green’s religious views not relevant, (prior entry seemed to allude that he might be acting out of religious/Catholic motives, but no evidence given for this); sections on Criticism of UNAIDS and Harvard University Affiliation with HIV Prevention Research Project cut down and put under Pope controversy section (not appropriate to give 2 sub-headings to one interview, once again this is a minor incident in a 30-year career, and no need to extensively quote from interview when link to transcript is given)

Generally (as someone who is familiar with Green's work, has read his books, etc.) I feel it is a skewed perspective to put in so much information about the recent Pope/condom controversy-- it distorts Green's real intellectual contributions by focusing on a media-overblown controversy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Veritas Curat (talk • contribs) 18:56, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

I initially agreed with you about the weight given to the "condom controversy", but once he did the OpEd and BBC interview, which capitalized on the controversy, that brought it front and center. I have added some changes to the controversy part, In the BBC interview he misquotes the Pope and when asked if he agrees with the statement of condoms making things worse he says 'well,I wouldn't put it that way". Then he says that condoms might have contributed tothe the decline of HIV in Uganda. He also says that there is no proof that condoms make things worse.

All of this is very important since hundreds of religious sites, news agencies and catholic blogs have used his statements as validation of the Pope stand on Condoms.It is clear that he does't agree with the Pope and that there is no proof of what he said and that he abused the name of Harvard. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jtinmefis (talk • contribs) 00:03, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
