Red ink[edit]

I really liked the parallel layout which places the kanji in such close proximation. The graphic distinction becomes more vividly clear when the characters are right next to each other.

(1) Why not bracket the kanji to create links to nowhere so that the contrast is highlighted in red? I have a sense taht this is an unhelpful thing to do, but I don't have a good reason other than a kind of non-specific intuition. In my view, this seems almost too clever by half.
(2) Is the reasoning in this case congruent with what Kusunose might have been thinking when he removed the links to Japanese era names? I would have thought it better for the links to have been retained, even if in a piping-modified form, as in era? In my view, this seems to be sensible -- not too clever, but just right.

These are trivial questions, I know; but the limited subject matter makes this a good venue for addressing a broader issue indirectly. Ooperhoofd 13:49, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1) kanji links may become redirects to respective articles tagged with {{R from alternative language}} someday so they might not be displayed in red. 2) each entry should have only one link per Wikipedia:Manual of style (disambiguation pages)#Individual entries. --Kusunose 14:26, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
