Untitled[edit]

I have edited this page to give a more complete synopsis of Reece's biography and to correct some previous edits by a user James Nicol that were hostile and/or denigrating to Reece. In particular, these past edits removed previous sentences on awards Reece's writing had won, referred to Reece as a "catamite" of Guy Davenport, and attempted to diminish the validity of his writing on mountaintop removal in Appalachia by stating that Reece "occasionally vactioned there." This page should be watched for future biased edits and also expanded to include a more detailed discussion of Reece's works. Pepper patty (talk) 17:05, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, I just noticed user James Nicol reffered to Reece's collection of poetry as being "embellished by an encomium by Davenport." 209.82.224.253 (talk) 15:12, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry that you saw my additions to this entry as hostile & denigrating, Patty. I understood that Wikipedia welcomed & encouraged all relevant facts--not simply complimentary ones. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is gaining a reputation for hagiography. Certainly, the length & frequency of Reece's visits to eastern Kentucky relates to an entry mentioning his writing about eastern Kentucky. In my life, I have read too many pieces by journalists each of whom may visit a place for little more than a week & then spool out such brief observations as if they were the entire story.
As for the mention of the encomium by Davenport, I cannot for the life of me see the reason to delete it. It was the mention of a printed compliment by a well-respected author & intellectual.
Finally, could we have some proofing of the discussion of this entry? (I'm sure that I didn't write that Reece "vactioned" in eastern Kentucky. That would've sounded as if he were involved in some rather perverse behavior w/ those mountains.) Proofing demonstrates that people read what they've written before simply posting it & leaving. Reece--indeed any subject--deserves that. James Nicol (talk) 07:28, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
