Image link removed[edit]

I have removed the link to Image:Pomone 1804.png since I believe it is obvious to the informed observer that it shows the wrong ship.

I know what it says at University of Washington Libraries [1], but I think this must be in error for two reasons: 1) HMS Ambuscade (formerly Pomone) was broken up in 1812 [2]. 2) The picture shows a ship clearly built after 1815 (based on bow shape, quarter davits, stern shape, etc). If anything, this may be a picture of Ambuscade (later Amphion), the RN's first screw frigate, which was launched in 1846 and decommissioned in 1862.Shem (talk) 22:11, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shem, I agree that this may be the Amphion, which incidentally was not built as the Ambuscade; admittedly the order was placed on 15 May 1828 for a Fifth Rate frigate intended to carry the name Ambuscade, but the projected ship was renamed Amphion on 31 March 1831, a long, long time 'before her keel was laid down in April 1840; the Amphion was re-ordered as a screw frigate on 18 June 1844 and launched on 14 January 1846. I think the funnel is a bit of a giveaway that this isn't a Napoleonic era warship, don't you!
My other gripe with this article is the statement that the Pomone was built "as the personal warship of Jérôme Bonaparte"; absolutely untrue; it was built for the puppet government (Ligurian Republic) under Napoleonic control, but in June 1805 (the month following the launch of the Pomone), the Republic was directly annexed by France as the département of the Apennins. Consequently it operated as a standard French naval unit. I have amended the article accordingly. Rif Winfield (talk) 17:20, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
