Name?[edit]

It's labelled on modern OS maps as Craig Syfyrddin though on early ones as Graig Syfyrddin. The Welsh definite article ('Y') in front of 'craig' mutates it that way, and then as often happens the Y is dropped but the mutation hangs around (Carn Goch > Y Garn Goch > Garn Goch is another example). Unless there's good reason I'd suggest we change the page name to 'Craig Syfyrddin' but retain reference in the article to the alternative spelling which was perhaps more common in the past. The short (mutated) form, 'Y Graig' or 'The Graig' is not an uncommon name around Wales. cheers Geopersona (talk) 07:01, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Though I note too that Richard Morgan in 'Place-names of Gwent' lists it with the 'G'. At the least both variants need a mention. Geopersona (talk) 07:06, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
