Watkin Tench's reference to Gorgon[edit]
I have removed a quotation of Watkin Tench, which had implied that he had hailed the Gorgon "with rapture and exultation" because it brought supplies to the starving colony. While this is an accurate quotation by Watkin Tench regarding the Gorgon, but is presented out of context; he was referring to the approach of his day of departure from the colony. Here is the full quotation:
- "The Gorgon had arrived on the 21st of September, and the hour of departure to England, for the marine battalion, drew nigh. If I be allowed to speak from my own feelings on the occasion, I will not say that we contemplated its approach with mingled sensations: we hailed it with rapture and exultation."
