Merge into Spuyten Duyvil Creek[edit]

This article is already pretty short and duplicates content in the article Spuyten Duyvil Creek, so unless there is any original content in this article, I am boldly merging it. These two waterways are both very short and are interconnected, so this article only serves a historical purpose. Epic Genius (talk) 13:48, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Historical purpose" is indeed sufficient to keep them separate, properly explained...which they have not been. They are not analogues.
The watercourse may be one today, but what its comprised of and how it got there has three stories. I'm trying to untangle them where they need to be, blend them where they overlap. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 13:56, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
But the histories of the Spuyten Duyvil Creek and Harlem River Ship Canal are related. The canal was created as a result of the rerouting of the creek. It is less confusing if this history is placed all in one article. Epic Genius (talk) 14:09, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm working on that now, integrating it at the Spuyten Duyvil page. When complete a merge of the two page's histories will be in order, which you can assist with. I'll check back with you when I'm close.
Best to leave the HRSC as it is for now as it's easiest for me to reference it in real time before defuncting it. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 16:09, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Done. The best route from here would be to merge HRSC's history with SDC, and create a targeted redirect for all [[Harlem River Ship Canal]] links to pipe straight to the subhead by that name at the SDC page. That'll take most the confusion out, and hopefully preempt endless iterations of good faith "Marble Hill used to be part of Manhattan...," entries the way they have been going. I pared out three at the SDC page today just doing the edit. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 17:30, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your edits. We don't need to histmerge this article's history if it is redirect; we can just place a {{merged to}} template on the talk pages. Epic Genius (talk) 17:32, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Will do. Leave the honors to you.
The HRSC still deserves its own page, but nothing like what it had. An actual page on its construction and all that led up and away from it, with some period pictures. That was just too much to tackle today. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 20:34, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
