Dissolution of Assembly[edit]

I had pointed this to User:Soham321 earlier as well while editing Narendra Modi that as assembly is dissolved by the Governor and not by the Government. Government (Chief Minister) recommends the Governor and it is binding on him. There are few exceptions which may be referred from this case: Mahabir Prasad Sharma vs Prafulla Chandra Ghose. The actual power is in hands of the Government but legally and constitutionally the suggestion that Gujarat Assembly was dissolved by the Narendra Modi government. - Mohit Singh (talk) 23:21, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Publication[edit]

I have made substantial changes to the publication section:

  • Changed the title. The earlier title The Impossible Election very vague and I do not understand why was it used as a section title.
  • I understand that Soham321 is very interested in referring 2002 Gujarat elections and indirectly referring to Narendra Modi everywhere but using this words In this book, despite the title, Lyngdoh actually writes about two elections. One is the 2002 Kashmir elections, and the other is the 2002 Gujarat elections. Both these two elections had been conducted when he had been the Chief Election Commissioner of India. are his own judgment. This article which he had referenced also says that the book is mainly on J&K Elections. Gujarat elections may have been referred but so have been several previous general and state elections.
  • If the author had any intentions for the above, he may not have put a text like The Election Commission and the 2002 Jammu & Kashmir Assembly Election on the head.
  • I also briefly read the book on Google Books here. Gujarat elections are no where to be seen in detail.
  • The reference of the mention of an RSS leader's support letter by media was merely to create sensation. [[Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons|It is not Wikipedia's job to be sensationalist.

The section title followed from the title of Lyngdoh's book 'Chronicles of an Impossible Election'. But i am ok with the new title. The references i gave are from reputed publications and some of them clearly say that Lyngdoh talks about not just the 2002 Kashmir elections but also about the 2002 Gujarat elections. For instance this is from the review of the book in The Hindu newspaper whose reference i had given :On Gujarat, where the Assembly was prematurely dissolved a little after the communal carnage, Lyngdoh is at pains to explain why he deferred holding the poll until after six months of the dissolution. The E.C. had taken the view that Article 174 (which mandates that Legislative Assemblies should be convened every six months) applies in all cases; that is to existing Assemblies and those dissolved prematurely. User:MohitSingh should not jump to conclusions based on what he has read of the book in Google Books. I am not jumping to any conclusions. Most of the book reviews which you have referenced do not even use the term Gujarat and even if they do, they just talk about Narendra Modi issue. Rather you do not jump to conclusions. Give me any line which supports this viewpoint that it has to be written like this: In this book, despite the title, Lyngdoh actually writes about two elections. One is the 2002 Kashmir elections, and the other is the 2002 Gujarat elections. Both these two elections had been conducted when he had been the Chief Election Commissioner of India. this is from the review of the book in 'The Hindu' whose reference I had given: FIRST THINGS first. This book is much more than a mere account of the 2002 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly poll. The chronicle of this "impossible" election figures only in the second half of this slim volume, but even here the Gujarat election, held in the same year, competes for space. (The words in capital are as they are written in the book review article in 'The Hindu'. )The BLP of Lyngdoh must contain an accurate account about the contents of the book he has written. As can be seen you have wrongly removed the information about Lyndoh's book containing his comments on the 2002 Gujarat elections.Soham321 (talk) 11:36, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Book Cover: The book cover in itself clearly and without any ambiguity marks out two things:
  • Title: CHRONICLE OF AN IMPOSSIBLE ELECTION Comment: Remember an ... election
  • Cover page text: The Election Commission and the 2002 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections
  • Preface: In the first paragraph itself, he talks that the book is about 2002 J&K elections. He does not even mention Gujarat even once there.
I agree that The Hindu article says that the elections are mentioned only in the second part. But do go through whatever is available on Google Book. Its more than sufficient. He has discussed Jammu and Kashmir Right from the first line of the first chapter.
The Decaan Herald] you cited does not even mention the term Gujarat even once and the India Today article you cited just mentions Gujarat once but about Narendra Modi.
It has been mentioned that the chronicle starts in the second half. Then what does first half deal with? The first half deals with the preparations and several other things related to the elections. I recommend you go through the Contents page.--Mohit Singh (talk) 14:11, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]


I now have a copy of the book 'Chronicle of an Impossible Election' by James Michael Lyngdoh in my hand. When i go to the Index section of the book i see under the tag 'Gujarat' the following: Gujarat, communal riots in, 181-82, 192-93 Election Commission order on election in, 201-04, 208 Election Commission Visit to, 182-85,191-95, 201-04, 208 elections, 173-78
