Border crossings[edit]

I removed references to a border crossing at Bankya/Petačinci, as neither Serbian [1] nor Bulgarian [2] official sites mention it.Preslav 08:03, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to be a future border crossing from what a Google search reveals. Not sure if it's in operation already (agreement between presidents seems to be from late April 2006), so unlikely) or when (even if!) it's supposed to be opened, though. So I think it was a good decision to remove the references to it. And thanks for the nice photos! TodorBozhinov 20:06, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism as a reference to Twitch Personality Jerma985[edit]

There have been repeated edits to state that the river is "compact" and alter the length, as an apparent reference to Twitch personality Jerma985.

There's an article draft that was started semi-recently at Draft:Jerma985. Ionmars10 (talk) 16:35, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Are you wiki-tards too lazy to finish the damn draft? -2600:1700:DD4:B50:64FC:E5CB:2B09:4551 (talk) 20:01, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

– The Twitch streamer Jerma985 is much more well-known (in the West, anyways) than the river. I'm not saying that we should make his page the default page for "Jerma", but maybe we could make a new page, Jerma (disambiguation), or something similar. 70.124.147.243 (talk) 02:33, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. The river is the primary topic base on historical significance. Rreagan007 (talk) 03:00, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. I've created Jerma (disambiguation) and added it to the nomination. – Uanfala (talk) 13:30, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Support That would be a curious precedent. It's hard to compare the prominence of a streamer and a river. Plus, the streamer's alias is Jerma985 which is not the same, even if they are also known under another name. Amended in view of subsequent comments. Maybe switch to Bulgarian Romanization per Nicole Sharp and leave Jerma in the disambiguation page only. --Laveol T 14:27, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per above. 162 etc. (talk) 14:38, 4 April 2022 (UTC) Struck vote per discussion below, this is not as clear as it first appeared. 162 etc. (talk) 19:40, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Use "Jerma (disambiguation)" instead. There is no ambiguity between "Jerma" and "Jerma985" or between "Jerma" and "Jeremy Elbertson". Nicole Sharp (talk) 16:41, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • Support. I didn't realize that there is also a movie named Jerma and an abandoned hotel named Jerma. "Jerma" would be appropriate as a disambiguation page, but not as a redirect to "Jerma985." Nicole Sharp (talk) 16:50, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • Also, is there a reason for using the Serbian Romanization instead of the Bulgarian Romanization? "Erma" is common to both languages, but adding the J is only for Serbian. Another reason to disambiguate. Nicole Sharp (talk) 16:50, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom — given that there's also a movie named Jerma and an abandoned hotel named Jerma. The safest bet would be to move the disambiguation page (Jerma (disambiguation)) to the basename. Paintspot Infez (talk) 17:57, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose leave the river as Jerma and use Template:About on the top to lead people to other uses. Cuñado ☼ - Talk 20:28, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Support per Uanfala below. Cuñado ☼ - Talk 23:02, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. There's no primary topic with respect to long-term significance. The results I see on google books are for all sorts of topics; I've had a dig at several of the more visible Africa-related ones, and "Jerma" turns out to be among the alternative names of a major ethnic group of Niger and an ancient Berber capital of Libya. I've added those entries to the dab page now. Primary topic with respect to usage? Judging from pageviews and Wikinav data, that currently is the video streamer (by a very large margin), so definitely not the river. Moving the disambiguation page over the base title would be best. – Uanfala (talk) 23:04, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh, thanks so much for adding those! That definitely leans it even more towards support for me! (And sorry about accidentally pinging you!) Paintspot Infez (talk) 21:07, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per Uanfala, Jerma985 has 28,221 views compared with only 1,039[[3]] for the river and the likes of the language and people also have long-term significance. Crouch, Swale (talk) 08:51, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support No clear primary topic here. While the river has longer-term significance, the pageviews make it hard to justify not disambiguating. AusLondonder (talk) 16:43, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: @Rreagan007, Laveol, 162 etc., and Cuñado: Are you aware that there's an entire language and an entire people group both with the name Jerma? They've both been recently added to the dab page. Paintspot Infez (talk) 18:49, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To be fair, there is no article on any of them, is there? I guess you're referring to the Zarma language and Zarma people. I do see the rationale now, but the original nomination was for a disambiguation page based on the existence of a streamer whose alias is not even Jerma. Given that info, I also agree that a disambiguation page would be the best option. Thanks for pinging me, might not have noticed otherwise. --Laveol T 06:52, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
