Outside links

Why are only certain links, mainly Jodiesweetin.net and the Yahoo! group being deleted over and over while other links stay on here? Netmaster5k

See WP:EL for the external links policy. If the site adds substantial value that could not be incorporated into the article, it is permissible to have up to one 'fan site'. There are other criteria as well, of course. --Yamla 18:30, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Personally I'd say that Jodiesweetin.net adds a lot more value than Sweetin.com. The site usually has more info and is more up to date.Netmaster5k

Do you run Jodiesweetin.net, Netmaster5k? I took a quick look at both sites. They both offer pretty much the same thing; to be honest, I'm not sure either site offers enough substantial value to be added to this article, but I probably won't take a stand on that point. Jodiesweetin.net claims to require MSIE, which would be grounds for excluding it, but the content worked just fine in my version of Konqueror. --Yamla 22:06, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

I don't run either of those sites. I do run the Yahoo! Group though. After reading your previous message, I can understand why my site shouldn't be listed there. I'm using Firefox on WinXP and Jodiesweetin.net works fine for me too.Netmaster5k 00:05, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

anyone seen the latest Globe?

yep, Jodie is listed on front page on top left corner for being sent to drug rehab... where did this come from?? --jason borden, birmingham AL

The Globe is a tabloid and is well-known for shoddy "journalism". This information may nevertheless be accurate but we need a far better citation for this to make the main article. --Yamla 15:41, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
I wanted to preemptively point out that even though E!News' January 24 program had a story about this, they did not have any proof of this again besides the Globe story (and no interviews with anyone connected with the story); they did have a statement from John Stamos' publicist, but it sounds more like 'I don't know what you're talking about' than any kind of comfirmation, so please do not cite E!News or the Globe as a 'source' for this 'story'. - Mrschimpf 05:07, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

The Globe and other tabloids are NOT reliable news sources. Almost all of their stories are made up. They are just trash. --Netmaster5k 23:24, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Sweetin interview on GMA

Looks like the "trash" in the Globe was on the mark. Saw the Sweetin interview with Robin Roberts and I think the girl deserves a lot of credit. She has come clean, admitted to being a meth addict and seems to be on the road to recovery. She was articulate and humble and represented herself very well. Jodie still has a great smile and movie star looks. I was really impressed with how she conducted herself and wish her the best. Despite her troubles, she seems like a nice kid. Did not blame addiction on her career. Hope she makes it back and re-establishes her acting career.

She's already been clean since March of last year. The Globe is still trash. The story about an intervention from Full House castmates was false, so was the "three-day bender". Crumbsucker 03:53, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
any support for "The story about an intervention from Full House castmates was false"? Streamless 16:45, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Yes. If you watch the "Good Morning America" interview Jodie denies the "bender" and the intervention. The interview can currently be found at Jodiesweetin.net. The site may be down at the moment due to high bandwidth use. I have downloaded the video (27.6MB) and plan to upload it to Rapidshare when I have time to.--Netmaster5k 18:38, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Yup. Every media outlet (including abc's own website) has incorrectly reported that, so I put the note in the article. The video is *See note below. BTW, I might try and put up a link to a fansite later. There seems to have been some controversy earlier. I can assure everyone that the site isn't mine, as I don't run any websites, let alone a fan one. :) Crumbsucker 22:44, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Plagiarism

Re: My edit '15:50, July 22, 2006 Netmaster5k'

I removed that whole section because it was copied word for word from Sweetin.com. Do not post Plagiaried or copyrighted content on Wikipedia. If you are the owner of that site and posted it here, please note that on this talk page. Peter Tangney 19:54, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Pants-Off Dance-Off

I don't know what you should call it, but where it says, "stripping down to their underwear" that's wrong considering that they strip down completely, but just to their underwear on television. And considering one can see the dancer's full video, with certain areas blurred, on fuse.tv, I figured it might be worth changing.-Babylon pride 02:19, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Based on her smile

"It is said that the producers cast her in the role based on her smile." To the person who cite taged that sentance. A similar worded statement, stating the same thing as that sentance was mentioned on an a TV special called "Behind The Walls of 'Full House'". Peter Tangney 14:12, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

If you can find the air date and details for that TV special, then you can add a footnote to the sentence and removed the citation tag. Cribcage 04:32, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Meth Use

If she admitted to meth use and going to a rehabilitation clinic, why shouldn't it be mentioned in her bio? Seems to be tied to her in pop-culture now...

  • I'm slightly annoyed the the information about this got taken out, but other parts of the exact same interview were left. If you're gonna take out the section on meth use because it is unsourced, you're gonna have to take out the rest because it all comes from the same thing. As for it being bad on her reputation? Well, yeah, but it's part of who she is and is, therefore, encyclopedic. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it shouldn't be included. Wikipedia is not censored. I will add it back later tonight if I can.--pIrish 00:19, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

I will crop it this afternoon so we can stick it in the infobox. Karrmann 10:47, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Portrait

I think a picture of her when she was younger might be more beneficial. I think the current picture appeals mostly to people that watch that E! crap all day. For someone who has never heard of her or seen Full House, they might be more interested in encyclopedic info about her as a younger actress or her roles on some of her more well-known shows. I also think some people might not recognize her in this picture, but would say,"Oh, yeah. That girl on that one show." if they saw a younger picture, because she looks drastically different in the current one. If it would kill some people if we don't have a picture of what she looks like 3/4 of a second ago, maybe the current one could stay to compliment a younger one so people know "what she looks like now, too." Would it be difficult to get a fair-use compliant picture of her that is similar to how she looked on Full House? Just throwing some random thoughts out. Happy Editing! Thanks! :) 67.182.231.24 04:08, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

unsourced

Shortly after getting married, Sweetin began using crystal meth. Her addiction lasted for a little over two years, and her friends, family, and husband were unaware. In March 2005, after being in the emergency room from the effects of alcohol and meth, she voluntarily checked herself into rehab. "One minute, everyone loves you, everyone wants you, you're it," Sweetin said. "And the next minute, they're like, 'Who? Oh no, never mind.' In February 2006, she appeared on Good Morning America to publicly announce her meth addiction, mentioning that five of her teeth had rotted away. She also denied tabloid reports of a "three-day bender" and an intervention from her former Full House castmates. She also announced that her husband filed for divorce because her addiction put his status as a police officer in jeopardy. The divorce was finalized later that year. It has come to light due to an investigation by a journalist in the Southwest that Jodie's addiction is at least due in part to the psychological condition known as "middle child syndrome". Apparently her on-screen frustrations and disappointments over constantly being ignored and passed over in favor of the intelligent firstborn child, DJ and the precious youngest child, Michelle, pushed her into her downward spiral of drug addiction in her real life.

All of this needs sources. Which Good Morning America Show was it? And the last few sentences are too weird. Especially since there is no source for them. Because she played a middle child she got the syndrome? O.o;; Does that mean Richard Dean Anderson because he played a resourceful engineer became one? Makes no sense. Otherwise delete it. 'cause as the top says, "This article must adhere to the policy on biographies of living persons. Controversial material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately, especially if potentially libelous. If such material is repeatedly inserted or if there are other concerns relative to this policy, report it on the living persons biographies noticeboard."--Hitsuji Kinno 01:35, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Ugh, please make sure that this "middle child syndrome" junk doesn't get added, unless it is sourced and the journalist is actually a psychiatrist or psychologist that was hired by Sweetin herself. Otherwise, it's absolutely ridiculous. Sorry if it seems like I'm censoring here: but there is nothing credible about this journalist's interpretation. - Cyborg Ninja 00:47, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Career

Why does it start talking about Hudgens? Who is Hudgens? Is it referring to Vanessa Hudgens? I'm confused? And if so, why is her information up for Sweetin? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.69.73.228 (talk) 17:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Meth addiction

In the article it says that she became addicted to meth when she was 20, but that she broke the addiction in 2000 after she spent six weeks at the Promises rehabilitation clinic. In 2000 she was 18. Breast Implants

I removed the following, which was included in the information about her marriage to her current husband:

"Earlier that year, Sweetin underwent breast implant surgery, increasing her cup size from A to D.[1]"

The reference links to an article on TMZ, which states that it looks as if she has breast implants. There is no factual information regarding what seems to be simply a matter of opinion. It looks as if people are having fun with this page, unfortunately. --75.80.185.220 (talk) 18:54, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Edit request on 14 March 2012

Jodie Sweetin spent her childhood growing up on the family sitcom, Full House. After eight seasons of Full House, Sweetin found it difficult to find work in the television business. "Growing up in the business you have to grow up very fast -- you do have a different type of childhood, that has its benefits and it has its drawbacks," Sweetin has said[2]. After graduating high school, going off to college, and getting married to a police officer, Shaun Holguin, she found herself in a downward spiral and addicted to methamphetamine. Most media stories about child stars imply that they are for the most part susceptible to being cast as deviant[3]. There is often a stereotype placed on child stars that seem to have “gone bad” that they are “scarred by success”[4]. After a reported three-day bender of cocaine, ecstasy, and methamphetamine, she checked herself in to a rehabilitation centre in late 2005[5]. Sweetin has never blamed her addiction on her early start as an actress, but she did admit that it was hard for her to figure out who she was independent from the show[6]. After her stint in rehab, Sweetin came clean about her addiction and became a spokeswoman for awareness of the dangers of drinking and drug use[7]. With Sweetin living a life free from drugs and alcohol, she found her career and personal life began to recover[8]. She found a job as the host for the TV show Pants-off Dance-off, and had been cast in a motion picture that was released in 2009[9]. Jodie remarried and gave birth to her daughter, Zoie in 2008[10]. Jodie also wrote a memoir of her life and the difficulties of being a child celebrity and a recovering drug addict. The memoir was released November 3rd, 2009. Perez Hilton reported an article about Sweetin called “Oh, Stephanie Tanner! Sweetin Lectures Students On Sobriety While Drunk!”[11]. The narratives of media texts have an effect on how the subject is presented[12]. In this particular article, it discussed an excerpt of the book that discussed Sweetin’s struggle with sobriety after her time in rehab, while she was on a college sobriety tour[13]. By using the name of the sweet, innocent young girl that Sweetin played on the show in the title, the article is portraying the path from innocence to maturity[14]. The story used her constructed dual identity in order to develop the idea that Sweetin was still the same innocent girl she played on TV, but she was doing bad things[15]. In the myth of the child star as a heroic figure, a period of alienation leads to a heroic return to celebrity with new understanding[16]. Sweetin now claims that all of her struggles are pretty much in the past and is enjoying her life with her two daughters, Zoie and Beatrix[17].

6/25/13 edit request: correct marriage details

Correct 3rd paragraph of personal section. We didnt know she was married until 2mo ago but the way it isnt written that way. I feel it should be written as such because others who marry in private and dont tell public(Janet Jackson did this twice, Rosie O 'Donnell, Robert Plant, Jason Lee, Penelope Cruz, Terrence Howard etc) have their bio written with this detail.

Change from this

On April 30, 2010, Sweetin's representative confirmed that she and her boyfriend of one year, Morty Coyle, were expecting a child.[18] Their daughter Beatrix Carlin Sweetin-Coyle was born on August 31, 2010.[19] Sweetin and Coyle became engaged in January 2011,[20] and married on March 15, 2012 in Beverly Hills.[21] On June 24, 2013, it was announced that Sweetin had filed for legal separation from Coyle due to irreconcilable differences.[22]

"who like Sweetin, is an ex-addict"

There is no such thing as an "ex-addict". This is the first lesson an addict has to learn - the addiction never goes away, you can merely learn to control it and avoid temptation. I don't know what the correct term in English is (not my first language), literally translated from German, it would be "abstinent addict" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dafalias (talkcontribs) 15:09, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
